Elliswick LTC Newsletter December 2017

Dear Members

Welcome to the third edition of the Elliswick LTC newsletter. A quick look back at 2017 highlights, what an outstanding year we’ve had with membership at capacity, coaching and social tennis going from strength to strength and the teams doing fantastically as well! November was an extremely busy month for the club with both the Clubhouse Q&A presentation and our AGM taking place. Planning for 2018 is already underway and we’ll update you early in the New Year on the what’s happening once we’ve firmed this up but in the meantime the Committee would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

AGM

At the recent AGM the the 2017 Report to Members was approved and the club has ended its 30th September 2017 financial year in excellent health. The proposed clubhouse extension was approved as part of the 5 Year Plan and work has started on putting in our application for planning permission. Courtesy notice letters have been posted to a number of our neighbours to advise them of the work on the junior court and proposed clubhouse extension but if you hear any complaints please let a Committee member know asap.

At the AGM a number of Committee members were re-appointed and its fantastic to have the support and help for another year. Four members have stood down including Nick, Debbie, Anthea and Suzette and we thank them for all their hard work on behalf of the club over many years and wish them a well earned rest! That does mean we have a few vacancies including Junior Club Captain, Minutes Secretary and Tournament Secretary and we would greatly appreciate any volunteers for these roles. If you are interested please contact our Chairman, Tony on [email protected] as we need your help.

Social

Exciting news … Elliswick’s first ever Awards Dinner Dance evening is provisionally booked for 14th July 2018. Our new programme for 2018 will be announced in January and all the usual popular events will feature. If you are interested in joining the social committee, being added to the helpers’ rota or if you have any suggestions for social events please email [email protected]. Don’t forget to wear your Santa hats at the remaining mix-in weekends! Lastly a big thank-you to the many people who have helped to make this a successful year of socials.

Grounds and Clubhouse

The Rebo wall has been temporarily taken down to allow the extension on the junior court to begin, but the wall will be back on in mid-January. Also, look out for our smart new winners’ boards in the clubhouse. Just a reminder as we move into the winter season, the courts can become slippery in wet or cold conditions. Please take great care and always ensure you’re wearing the appropriate footwear.

Tennis Update

The ladies singles’ and doubles’ ladders are up and running but it’s not too late to join in! The first Ladies Team practice was extremely successful and everyone enjoyed mince pies and gluwein in the clubhouse afterwards. The next Ladies Team practice will be on Sunday 7th January at 2.30pm. For Ladies team information please email Victoria at [email protected].

The men’s Winter Singles continues and is approaching the half way point with the prospect of relegation / promotion looming. The recent arctic weather has hampered playing opportunities somewhat but hopefully most remaining matches will be completed.

The winter vets teams are all competing well with the 45A and 55C teams currently second in their respective divisions.
Anyone wishing to join the winter singles league in January or to be considered for team tennis should contact Simon Lowe via [email protected].

Finally, wishing you all a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and looking forward to seeing you in 2018!

Don’t forget to keep up to date with events at our website at http://www.elliswickltc.co.uk

Kind Regards

ELTC Committee
