Elliswick LTC Newsletter – March 2019
Welcome to our March Newsletter. This month, following the clock change, the midweek evening sessions are commencing. Tuesday is Men’s Night, Wednesday is Ladies Night, and Thursday is Club Night (mixed doubles tennis). All start at 6pm. All members, regardless of playing standard, are very welcome to come along and enjoy these sessions. So don’t be shy! Please do note, however, that the bar will not be open the first week of April due to the ongoing clubhouse extension work. So players looking for refreshments after the evening sessions will need to BYOB. We hope to have the bar functioning for the second week in April.
The sign-up period has now closed. The draw will be posted within a week and the tournament commences on 6th April. Please schedule your matches well in advance of the deadlines in case they get postponed due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Best of luck to all the entrants!
Clubhouse and Grounds
The faulty floodlight mast should be repaired on April 1st by Abacus. The extension is going well, we will have most of the work done by April 8th, we will then try and keep things quiet during the Easter holidays, and the end of which we are scheduled to do the flooring and have the internal acoustic partition installed. There is an opening ceremony set for May 11th.
Ladies nights will begin in April with the first one being Wednesday 3rd April starting at 6pm. Victoria will be starting the email round robin to gather numbers so attendees will know how many 4’s we can get together. Open to all ladies, all playing abilities. If you are a new member and would like to be included in the email, please contact Victoria at [email protected]
All winter matches have been played. Particular congratulations to the 60A and B teams for winning their divisions.
Summer matches will begin shortly. We have 2 Herts League teams one of which is a new team and 4 Hot Rackets teams. If there are any new members who would like to be considered for the teams please email Victoria.
Friendly weekday matches have begun. Many thanks to Lynn for organising these again this Summer. Lynn can be contacted on [email protected] if you would like to be considered. There are a couple of dates Lynn is looking for a player.
Mixed Team Tennis
The East Herts Winter Mixed League is reaching the end of the season, with just a few matches left to play. Most of the teams have had good results, holding their own in their respective divisions.
The Datchworth Summer League commences on Monday 22nd April and runs for 14 consecutive Monday evenings.
The Mid Herts Mixed League (historically called the mixed friendlies) starts up in late April or early May. Historically we have used a mix of senior and improving players in this league. For many it is an introduction to competitive tennis. If you are interested in playing in these friendly matches, please do not hesitate to contact Andree Haxton at [email protected].
Thank you to all those who are now wearing the new shoe tags. If you haven’t collected yours yet, please get them from the clubhouse the next time you play.
The membership renewal period is now over, and places have been offered to people from the waiting list. 44 new members have signed up and paid already, and the remaining places will be filled in the next few weeks. A big welcome to all our new members!
The cake sale on Saturday the 23rd March raised another £60 towards the St George’s school repairs. Thank you to everyone for their support.
The preparations of our Grand Opening on Saturday 11th May are in hand. An invitation to all members is attached. If you are planning to attend please can you either email Jeanette at [email protected] or put your name down on the list which will be posted on the notice board on Friday, as soon as possible so we have an idea of numbers to cater for.
