Elliswick LTC Newsletter – May 2019
Welcome to our May Newsletter. We are very pleased to inform you that on a very fine Saturday afternoon, the 11th of May, our new clubhouse extension was officially opened by the Town Mayor of Harpenden, Councillor David Heritage, and his Consort, Councillor Teresa Heritage.
The function was also attended by Martin Corrie, President of the British Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), Trevor Adamson, President of the Hertfordshire LTA, Jim McGown, the club’s President, Eric Rovick, the club’s Chairman, and numerous other dignitaries and club members.
The extension has substantially enlarged the clubhouse to include a much larger lounge, additional catering space and office facilities.
Please check out the lovely photos of the Grand Opening Day on the club’s website: http://www.elliswickltc.co.uk under the Gallery.
ANNUAL CLUB TOURNAMENT
We are now entering the final month of the tournament, with Finals Day taking place on Saturday 29th June. Congratulations to all those players who have made it through their initial round(s). At this point it is imperative that all matches are played by the deadline dates, to allow further rounds to be arranged and played on time. If any players are encountering difficulty scheduling matches by the deadline, please don’t let it just slip – contact the Tournament Secretary, Louise Behan, asap (firstname.lastname@example.org).
GROUNDS & CLUBHOUSE
We have held some meetings with interested parties to work out how the two areas should be used, and how and when the acoustic partition should be deployed. We will train certain people to open the partition, it is quite tricky and there is potential to cause damage if the correct procedure is not followed. Also, we must not drag furniture across the floor from one area to the other. We will be keeping a snagging list of issues in the new building for the next six months.
We have a maintenance agreement with the electricians that means we can call them out for the floodlights in case of malfunction. Hopefully we will not have to use that service too often.
The defective floodlight mast has been repaired. Nefyn is meeting Abacus this week to put in place a new maintenance contract for the lights.
Dave Watkinson has sorted out the new planting areas and lawn following the building works.
