ELLISWICK LTC NEWSLETTER – JULY 2025
Welcome to our July Newsletter. We hope that you have been enjoying your tennis in the sun at Elliswick LTC and may the sun continue to shine on our courts throughout the year.
COURTS RESURFACING
Another reminder that Courts 4-7 as well as the junior/mini court (due to health & safety concerns) are completely Out Of Action until 5th September. Members will have access to courts 1-3 during the mornings and court 1 in the afternoons. The Coaches will have priority over courts 2-3 from 12pm in the afternoons. A temporary fence has been erected at the back of courts 1-3 whilst the fencing works are undertaken.
There will be only two courts available for Men’s nights, Ladies nights and Club nights, we suggest that players play only 5 games before rotating off and allowing others to have the next 5 games.
The rear car park will be for exclusive use of the contractors and space must be allowed for large vehicles to access the rear car park. Do not access the clubhouse or rear car park via the rear door. It should be kept shut at all times.
CAR PARKING
During the courts resurfacing period, please may we suggest that if you play at 8am to 9am, please park your cars on the road as there are no parking restrictions during that time. This would allow the 9am players to park in the car park.
COURT BOOKING
Particularly due to limited availability of the courts at present, we remind members that they may only book one court at a time. If you decide to cancel your game, please do not forget to cancel the court that you have booked so that other members can use it.
TENNIS BALLS
Just a reminder that tennis balls are provided for members to use and they are accessible from the shelf and rack in the entrance hallway. New tennis balls are changed regularly (once every two days). If you wish to use new tennis balls for your games, then we suggest that you provide them yourselves.
We have noticed an increase in theft of tennis balls in recent months. Please do not take balls from the tins or the rack if you do not intend to return them. Note that only Committee members can manage ball provision.
BACON ROLLS ON SATURDAY MORNINGS
There will be no bacon rolls on Saturday mornings until September.
GROUNDS
The hand dryer in the gents toilet is broken and is due to be replaced on 13th September. Apologies for the inconvenience.
TEAM TENNIS
THE 2025 HARRIS CUP
We have entered one men’s team and one ladies team into the County’s 2 pair knockout cup event, ‘The Harris Cup’. If our teams win, the finals will be held at Moor Park LTC on Sunday 12th October. All the best of luck to our teams in playing in this league.
Mens Tennis
The Herts National League and the Hot Rackets matches have now been completed. Our National League team came 3rd in their division. Our Hot Rackets teams faced some tough matches, and both teams will be relegated. There are still a few matches left to play in the Herts League. We are looking forward to play in the winter vets (45’s, 55’s and 65’s) starting in the Autumn. If any gents would like to play in team tennis, please do not hesitate to contact our Men’s Captain, Jem Collier-Garrity, at [email protected].
Ladies Tennis
Summer matches are all in progress with some great wins and lovely weather
We are now looking towards winter fixtures (September to March) we have entered 1 over 40’s, 2 over 50’s and 2 over 60’s (A and B teams). If you are currently not in a team and wish to play, please contact the ladies captain, Kate Curson, at [email protected]
Mixed Tennis
Datchworth summer league has now finished with varied results. Our Datchworth 1st and 2nd teams have been promoted, our 3rd team is being relegated and our 4th team stay in their division. Thanks to the captains and the players who played in this league.
We look towards to the Autumn and Winter matches in both the Datchworth and East Herts Winter Mixed leagues. In the autumn, we will enter 4 teams in the Datchworth league, in which matches run every Saturday at 1pm or 2pm for 10 weeks from September.
In the East Herts Winter Mixed League, we will enter 6 teams. Matches running from September through to March next year. These leagues run approximately 5/6 matches over the season.
There are some changes to captains this year. Thank you, as always, to those who volunteer their time to run these teams – it’s very much appreciated and without you we would not be able to run as many teams.
Anyone who wants to be considered for mixed matches, having not played before, please let our Mixed Team Captain, Amy Martin, know at [email protected]
JUNIOR TENNIS
The Friday Junior Nights in the warm evenings have been enjoyed by many. The Junior Nights will reconvene after the Summer Holidays on Friday 12th September.
During the summer break, we have allocated court 1 on Fridays from 3:30pm to 8pm to be used by the Juniors.
We will be entering some junior teams (U8 to U16) to play in Hertfordshire Youth League – Winter 2025-26. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with our Junior Captain, Dan Pearce, at [email protected] if you have juniors who are keen to play in this league.
