ELLISWICK LTC JUNE 2026 NEWSLETTER

Welcome to our June 2026 Newsletter. With the sun that has been generously shining our way, we hope that you have been enjoying your tennis on our very well-maintained courts.

Due to the soaring temperatures, we set out below general best practice when playing tennis in these conditions.

Timing and pacing:
• Play during cooler parts of the day (early morning/evening)
• Conserve energy during changeovers – intentional rest and pacing
• Drink before and during play

  • Bring cooling sprays, ice packs, soaked hats and towels
    • Wear moisture-wicking, light-coloured, breathable or UV-protective clothing

Take care and enjoy your tennis.

BAR PRICE LIST

Following a recent bar subcommittee meeting, some bar prices have been changed. This is mainly a result of inflation in the last two years (prices were last changed in 2024). Please note the new prices on the laminated price lists in the bar.

TEAM TENNIS

Our Men’s and Ladies’ summer matches are now fully underway and will continue through to the end of September.

The Men’s Hot Rackets 1st Team have had a lively start to the season. After a narrow 3–1 loss away at St Albans, the team bounced back with two strong wins: a 3–1 home victory over Pirton (featuring Sam Harrison’s debut in crocs and an Andy Barker cameo on the opposition), followed by a dominant 4–0 win against Greenwood Park. Special mention to Andy McCardle and Eric Rovick, who dropped just three games all afternoon. With two fixtures left, the team are well‑placed for promotion to Division 1 and aiming to keep the momentum going.

The Men’s Hot Rackets 2nd Team have played four matches so far, winning one and narrowly losing three. All fixtures have been competitive and enjoyable, and the team have one match left to play.

Our Men’s Herts League 4th team have played three tough matches although the results haven’t gone their way yet, they’ve fielded strong line‑ups each time and continue to battle hard.

The Summer Datchworth & Mid-Herts Mixed Leagues are also nearing completion. It has been a fantastic season so far, with plenty of great tennis played in some truly lovely weather.

Looking ahead to the Winter Leagues starting in September, Elliswick will be entering the following teams:

Ladies: 40A, 50A, 50B, 60A, 60B

Men’s: 45A, 45B, 45C, 55A, 55B, 55C, 65A, 65B

Mixed: East Herts Winter Mixed & Autumn Datchworth

If you would like to be considered for selection for any of the winter teams, please contact the relevant captains as follows:

Men’s Captain: Mark Behan – [email protected]

SOCIALS

June was another exceptionally busy month on the social calendar, with a fantastic programme of events enjoyed by members throughout the club. The month began with a lively Ladies’ Fizz & Curry Night, where everyone enjoyed a delicious Indonesian curry accompanied by a well-deserved glass of fizz. This was followed by an excellent wine-tasting evening, generously hosted by Barrie and Alison, before members came together again for a vibrant Mexican Supper Night, expertly prepared by Victoria and Susie. We rounded off the month in style with a wonderful Finals Day. Members were treated to some outstanding tennis, alongside a superb lunch prepared by the Beasleys and their team of helpers. The clubhouse and bar were buzzing throughout the day, creating a fantastic atmosphere for players and spectators alike. A huge thank you to everyone who gives their time to organise, prepare and support these events. Your hard work and enthusiasm make our social programme such a success and are greatly appreciated by all who take part.

2026 Junior Tournament – A Fantastic Day for Our Juniors

The 2026 Junior Tournament was a huge success, filled with brilliant tennis, sunshine, and plenty of fun. From our youngest U8s right through to the U16s, the standard of play was superb. Congratulations to every junior who took part — and a special well done to our Winners and Runners Up, who treated us to some truly outstanding matches. We are incredibly lucky to have such talented and enthusiastic young players in our club.

A huge thank you to Lucy Howarth for keeping everyone fuelled with lunch and treats throughout the day, and to the many parents who stepped in to umpire matches. Steve Segall spent the day capturing fantastic photos of our players — these will be uploaded to the Club website shortly.

Our thanks also go to coaches Rupert and Steve, who sat on the umpire chair to umpire the U12s and U16s boys matches.

Finally, this day simply wouldn’t have happened without Rupert’s superb organisation, supported by Dan and Vicky, whose planning and timings kept the day running smoothly. A few matches overran — a testament to the high level of tennis and close contests — but the schedule worked brilliantly. Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a special and successful day for our juniors

JUNIOR NIGHTS
The Young Juniors session is structured play with the coaches (4:30 to 6pm), while the later (6pm to 8pm) offers older Juniors (11+) the chance to play some matches or just to socialise and have fun with friends.  We have a few more weeks of the Summer Term with the last session on Friday 17th July (re-commencing in early September).  All junior members are welcome.  The bar and snack shop are open, offering hot dogs and sweet snacks.

LOST PROPERTY BOXES

Please look through the lost property boxes (clothing, racquets, water bottles) in the clubhouse as the boxes will be emptied at the end of this week.

KEYS FOUND

A bunch of keys were found on Elliswick Road a couple of weeks ago.  Please let Andree Haxton know if they belong to you.

Kind Regards
