Elliswick LTC Newsletter – April 2024

Welcome to our April Newsletter. We have some important news to share with you in this newsletter.

FLOODLIGHT UPGRADE

We are delighted that our floodlight planning application was given final approval just last night. Many thanks in particular to Louise Behan for her expertise, hard work and persistence, without which we wouldn’t have made it across the line. We will proceed to schedule works on courts 4-7 for their resurfacing and the floodlight upgrade, subject to the availability of the contractors and materials, as well as finding a suitable window of opportunity. Although we will try to keep disruption to a minimum, the lower courts will be out of action for a significant period of time. We will update members again when we have a timeline for the works.

CENTENARY – 8TH JUNE – FAMILY FUN DAY

Please remember to sign up for our Centenary Celebration Day on Saturday, 8 June. This can be done via the link https://forms.gle/hHPmQwwtgrWdvhCH9 or by email to David Kendall ([email protected]). Only members can attend and our numbers are limited to 200.

Also, as part of the Centenary Day celebrations on Saturday 8th June, we would like to put some items into a time capsule to be opened in a 100 years’ time. The time capsule will be placed underground next to the clock with a plaque on top to let the future generation know it is there! The capsule will be no larger than 30cms x 30cms x 30cms. If you have any suggestions as to what could go inside, please send them to Victoria Aitchison at [email protected].

BAR POLICY

The Committee has recently approved a bar policy. A copy will be posted in the clubhouse and it can be viewed on the ELTC website (https://www.elliswickltc.co.uk/eltc-bar-drinks-policy/ ). All members who enter the bar area should read this policy carefully.

COURT ETIQUETTE

With the new summer season upon us, we would like to share the current ‘etiquette’ guidelines for Elliswick LTC. The club always gets extremely busy at this time of year, with multiple matches taking place and increasing social play as the weather improves.

Everyone at Elliswick, both adult and junior members, should know the particular guidelines for ‘etiquette’ whilst on court. There will always be the odd occasion when the courts are extremely busy, balls will be flying across different courts and members will have to cross courts that are in use. When these situations do happen, let’s all continue to be patient and respectful of each other so we all have a great summer of tennis.

We would like to wish every success to all teams for the upcoming season and let’s have a great summer of enjoyable and competitive tennis!

Please see the current ‘etiquette’ policies below

ANNUAL TOURNAMENT- FINALS DAY 22nd JUNE 2024

The tournament is well under way and thank you to those who already completed their first-round tournament match. Congratulations to all those players remaining in the tournament.  All the second-round tournament matches must be played by the 19th May.  Ladies Singles must be played by the 9th June. Please can you ensure that you complete your match by the deadline dates and the winners put their names down on the result list.  Failure to complete your match tournament by the deadline will result in one or both players/pairs being withdrawn from the tournament.

If you need a court for your tournament match during the club nights or social mix-ins, please contact Andree Haxton at [email protected], who will try to allocate a court for your match.  If you have any issues, please contact Louise Behan at [email protected] as soon as possible.

Finals Day is Saturday 22nd June 2024. Matches will be played both in the morning and in the afternoon. In case of inclement weather, finals day will be moved to Sunday 23rd June 2024. Players wishing to play in the finals must ensure they are available to play on both days.

We are looking for members who can help with the linesmen/women rota for the 5 matches. Please contact Andree Haxton at [email protected] if you are able to volunteer.

CLUBHOUSE AND GROUNDS

Repairs have been done to the floodlights, roof and gent’s toilets. Also, so far this month, the solar PV system has generated more energy (1655 kWh) than consumed by the club (1510 kWh), meaning that Elliswick has been a net exporter of energy to the grid in April (and should continue to be throughout the summer months).
