Dear Members,

Men’s Herts leagues have now come to an end, it was good to see some new faces competing this year – thanks again to team captains for their hard work in making this possible.

The vets leagues will get underway in the next few months. If anyone would like to be included in the squads for 45+, 55+, 65+, then please let Rupert know and he can put you in touch with the respective team captain.

Men’s Nights will continue on Tuesdays (from 6pm) until the end of September. We will endeavour to open the bar for the remaining men’s nights.

LADIES TENNIS

With the Summer matches drawing to a close and only a couple left to play, it is time to look ahead to the Winter teams.  Thank you captains for organising the teams this Summer and even though they haven’t had the usual competitive edge it has been good to interact with other clubs and their players again.  If there are any ladies who haven’t played in the Winter teams before and would like to be considered, please let Victoria know.

Ladies friendly matches are still being played and enjoyed, thank you Lynn for organising these and ladies evenings are being well attended and continuing for a few weeks yet.

MIXED TEAM TENNIS

Mixed matches commence this month. Elliswick has entered 3 teams in Datchworth run by Kate, Ant and Jem and 5 teams in the East Herts Mixed run by Kate, Rob, Ant, Tony and Steve. Thank you to our new captains, Tony and Jem and to all our captains who volunteer their time to run teams. If you would like to play in mixed matches, please contact [email protected].

CLUB SOCIALS

We held our Summer Party last Saturday the 28th August.  It was a great way for our members to enjoy getting together again and for the Club to thank members for their patience and understanding during the last 18 months.  On arrival there were teas and pastries, followed by a complimentary drink and buffet lunch.  Live music was provided by Dave Pankhurst and his band and there was lots of fun tennis.  Our special thanks to the Angels of Elliswick (Jeanette, Sally and their teams) who helped to make the day run smoothly and very enjoyable.

We also held the most popular Bank Holiday Tournament on Monday the 30th August.  It was very well attended and everybody enjoyed playing in the fun and friendly tournament.  Our thanks to Jem Collier-Garrity and the team (especially Sally Radcliffe and her mum and partner) who made the tournament run smoothly. Congratulations to the winners (Gaby, Sue and Kate).
