Elliswick LTC Newsletter – May 2023
Dear Members
Summer weather has finally arrived at Elliswick LTC. We’ve had two very successful May Bank Holiday Tournaments this month and we were blessed with some wonderful sunny days. Our thanks go to our super organisers: Jane, Justin and Jem. It’s great to see the courts being so well used with the commencement of summer team tennis and the ongoing the annual club tournament.
It’s been a busy month at the club as outlined below and we’ve a lot coming up in June/July including the wine tasting this coming Saturday night, the Annual Club Tournament Finals on the 24th of June and the Fantastic Tim Sutton Show on the 8th of July.
ANNUAL CLUB TOURNAMENT – FINALS DAY SATURDAY 24TH JUNE 2023
With back up day being 25 June 2023
The tournament is well under way and most matches have been played by the stated deadlines. Congratulations to all those players remaining in the tournament. With just 3 weeks left until finals day, match timeliness become of increasing importance. All remaining tournament players should schedule their next matches as soon as possible, particularly as court booking availability can become a bottleneck to the tournament. Please see the deadline dates as follows:
QUARTER FINALS: 10TH JUNE
SEMI FINALS: 20TH JUNE
Matches are to be played by the date stated above. Failure to do this will result in one or both players/pairs being withdrawn from the tournament. Any issues, please contact Louise Behan as soon as possible at [email protected]. Courts are prioritised for matches at certain times – in particular, a court will be available for booking (only for match purposes), on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights during the tournament period. Please contact Andree Haxton at [email protected] if you wish to book a court during those times.
We are looking for some volunteers to line judge the matches and to help with the catering in the kitchen. Please let Andree Haxton know at [email protected] if you are able to help.
There will be breakfast of sausage/bacon rolls with tea/coffee from 9.45am available to purchase from Ella Beasley’s stall (to raise fund for the World Challenge). The BBQ lunch with several salads will be served about 12.30pm followed by afternoon tea and cake about 2.30pm. Please bring cash for the food (lunch and afternoon tea) at £7.50 per adult and £5 for Under 12, the bar will also be open on the day.
GROUNDS AND CLUBHOUSE
Further to the electrical safety inspection in February, the remedial works have now been completed by Deeks and the EICR certification is valid for the next 5 years.
The alarm systems have been serviced.
The planning for a solar PV and battery storage system is at an advanced stage and quotes are now being received.

We held a very successful New Members’ Day on May 14th, at which we welcomed 29 new adult members. For those of you who couldn’t make it, please get in touch if you are looking for groups to play in.
