Elliswick LTC Newsletter – November 2019

Dear Members,

Welcome to our November Newsletter.

Thank you to all those who attended the AGM on Saturday the 23rd November 2019.  We are pleased to inform you that the AGM went very smoothly, with over 80 members either attending or completing proxy forms.  The minutes of the AGM will be available on the website shortly. We would like to thank you for all your support to make our club thrive and be a healthy and happy place for all members to enjoy.

MEMBERSHIP

If you wish to change your family membership in any way next year, or if any members want to add or remove any children/partners from your membership, or change from non-playing to playing, or intermediate to student (out of town), please let our Membership Secretary, Sally Radcliffe know by 31/12/2019 by emailing her at [email protected].

GROUNDS & CLUBHOUSE

No date yet for the paving company to fix the slabs at the front of the clubhouse, but it should be done in the next 6 weeks or so.

The underfloor heating is now on and set at about the right temperature.

Nefyn had a snagging meeting with the Architect regarding the extension. We now have a list of small jobs that will be addressed by the builders – there was nothing major to be fixed.

Outdoor temperatures are starting to fall below the freezing point on some days. So please do take care if you decide to play on frosty courts this winter. All members play at their own risk and parents should supervise their children, particularly in adverse conditions.

TEAM TENNIS

Ladies Tennis

Overview of Ladies Seniors 2018-19 (as featured in the Herts LTA Newsletter).

Over 60s

The number of teams in the league is up by four so that Group 3 has had to be split into A and B. It is very encouraging to know that so many over 60s still want to play competitive tennis. Group 1 was won by HARPENDEN A, Group 2A by ELLISWICK A, Group 2B by DAVID LLOYD BUSHEY, Group 3A by ELLISWICK B, Group 3B by HARPENDEN B.

Men’s Tennis

Herts League (3 pair format):

Amendment from the previous month newsletter: the Men’s Summer Doubles 5th team were not relegated and will remain in Division 4B next season (where they may meet the 3rd team).

Mixed Team Tennis

Our three teams in the Datchworth Autumn League performed brilliantly this season. Elliswick 1 came second in the top division, Elliswick 2 won the 6th division by a wide margin, and Elliswick 3 came second in the 7th division. So Elliswick 2 and Elliswick 3 are in a position to be promoted next year. Well done to all the captains and players.

The East Herts Winter Mixed League has started up now and our seven teams will be playing matches throughout the winter season.

Information on team results and players are posted on the Competitive Tennis board in the clubhouse.
