Elliswick LTC Newsletter – November 2020

Dear Members,

Welcome to our November Newsletter.

Thank you to all those who attended the AGM on Saturday 21st November 2020.  We are pleased to inform you that the AGM went very smoothly, with over 80 members attending our first Zoom meeting and 46 members sending their apologies/proxies. Our President, Jim McGowan, informed us that this year was our 90th AGM. The minutes of the AGM will be available on the website shortly. We would like to thank you for all your support to make our club thrive and be a healthy and happy place for all members to enjoy.

COVID-19 UPDATE – Post-lockdown Regional Tiers

We are pleased to inform you that the LTA has confirmed that tennis activity can take place as of 2nd December. Therefore, we will reopen the club for play on the morning of 2nd December.  However, the club house remains closed for the time being.  We will return to a system of tiered restrictions once the current lockdown period ends. The LTA has published a new summary grid https://www.lta.org.uk/globalassets/news/2020/local-restrictions-grid—tennis-activity-by-tier.pdf detailing what tennis activity can take place under each of the three tiers of restrictions. We in Harpenden are currently Tier 2: High Alert.

Please note that no socialising is allowed before or after tennis activity and that social distancing is to be maintained before, during and after play.

The LTA is still awaiting the publication of the Government’s full, detailed guidance and legislation so that they can update their full guidance documents for tennis venues, coaches, players and officials, detailing all protocols, procedures and information needed to for tennis activity to take place safely and in line with Government guidelines. We will update you when this has happened such that you are all aware of the full set of applicable rules.

MEMBERSHIP

If you wish to change your family membership in any way next year, or if any members want to add or remove any children/partners from your membership, or change from non-playing to playing, or intermediate to student (out of town), please let our Membership Secretary, Sally Radcliffe, know by 31/12/2020 by emailing her at [email protected]. If you want to add any family members, please make sure they are on our waiting list.

GROUNDS & CLUBHOUSE

  • We have substantially reduced the height of the hedge between the front car park and courts 1-3. We hope that more light will help to minimise the creasing of the surface on Court 2, in particular. It should allow more sunlight on to the courts on winter mornings, reducing frost coverage.
  • The existing floodlights have been repaired and are now fully functional

TEAM TENNIS

Mens Tennis

With a return to tennis next week, the men’s teams are ready to get back into action. Our Men’s 45A were one of the winners of their age groups and were promoted for the 2020/21 season.

The internal box leagues will restart from Monday 7th December. Please get in touch with Rupert Tillbrooke at [email protected] if you’d like to get involved.

Ladies Tennis

The autumn/winter matches are underway with some good results so far.  Some matches have had to be rescheduled due to the 2nd lockdown so matches will begin again imminently.

Our ladies 40B were one of the winners of their age groups and were promoted for the 2020/21 season.

JUNIOR Tennis

We are pleased to inform you that in 2019, our 14U Boys were the division 2 winners in The Hertfordshire Autumn Junior League.

Please find below the link to the Herts LTA newsletter, in which our club is featured on pages 7, 10, 15, and 16. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ui=2&ik=36b7e90f6a&attid=0.6&permmsgid=msg-f:1683809461877028447&th=175e17c8cc9f365f&view=att&disp=inline
