Elliswick LTC Newsletter – November 2021

Dear Members,

Welcome to our November Newsletter.

Thank you to all those who attended the AGM on Saturday 20th November 2021.  We are pleased to inform you that the AGM went very smoothly, with over 30 members attending the meeting and 85 members sending their apologies/proxies. Our President, Jim McGowan, informed us that this year was our 95th AGM. The minutes of the AGM will be emailed to you shortly. We would like to thank you for all your support to make our club thrive and be a healthy and happy place for all members to enjoy.

We are pleased to inform you that Sue Cove was elected as the new Ladies Captain at the AGM. Our thanks to Victoria Aitchison, who stepped down as Ladies Captain after 5 years in the role, for all of her work and contributions to the Committee.

ACHIEVEMENT

One of our Junior Teams has received an award from the LTA as the winner of the LTA National League 2021. Congratulations and well done to all the players.

WIMBLEDON BALLOT

Following the discussion about the allocation of Wimbledon tickets at the AGM, the LTA has announced a new ballot for club volunteers to be introduced for the allocation of Wimbledon tickets next year. The ballot will run in tandem with the ballot to allocate tickets to registered LTA members. To qualify for the volunteer ballot, members must fall into one or more of the following categories: Administrator, Chair, Welfare Officer, Main Contact, Committee Member, Competition Organiser, Junior Contact, Match Secretary, Treasurer, Seniors Contact, Volunteer, Membership Secretary, or Volunteer Coordinator. Andree Haxton and David Kendall will be responsible for registering qualifying members with the LTA, which must be done by 28 February 2022.  If you think you might qualify, please contact Andree or David at [email protected].

MEMBERSHIP

Following the AGM, we are now starting the renewal process for 2022 tennis season. This time, we intend to send out invoices using a new online membership system. The invoices will include a link to make a one-off Direct Debit payment. This will greatly simplify the renewal process, as well as making your data more secure.

Invoices will be sent out by email in the first week of January. As per last year, invoices for families will go to a single email address in the household. Please let Sally Radcliffe know by emailing her at [email protected] if she needs to change the email address for invoicing.

There will still be a 5% discount for prompt payment in January. All payments must be made by the 28th February 2022.

If you wish to change your family membership in any way next year, or if any members want to add or remove any children/partners from your membership, or change from non-playing to playing, or intermediate to student (out of town), please let our Membership Secretary, Sally Radcliffe, know by 31/12/2021 by emailing her at [email protected]. If you want to add any family members, please make sure they are on our waiting list.

GROUNDS & CLUBHOUSE

  • No further movement yet on our floodlight planning application after the rejection, we are awaiting our planning consultant to come back to us with a proposal.
  • The driveway lights have been replaced by Wrens Electrical, we now have individually activated LED lights which will be a lot more reliable than the old lights.
  • We have a new sign for the club at the entrance, which bears our new logo.
  • The winners’ boards have been updated with the results of this year’s tournaments.

TEAM TENNIS

Mens Tennis

The autumn/winter matches for the Mens vets are underway.  My thanks to all the captains for organising your teams and best of luck to all our players who are taking part in the over 45, over 55 and over 65 age categories.

Ladies Tennis

The autumn/winter matches (ladies vets) are underway. We entered 6 ladies’ teams again this year (40A and 40B, 50A & 50B and 60A & 60B). Good luck to all the ladies, who are playing in the cold autumn/winter months.

Mixed Team Tennis

Datchworth friendlies are complete for the autumn season. It was a ‘bit bumpy’ with last minute cancellations and rearrangements so thank you to the captains for supporting through.

East Herts Mixed league is underway with our 5 teams which runs through to March 2022.
If there are any interested members who wish to captain, please let [email protected] know. This would mean we can field another team next year.

JUNIOR Tennis

  • Congratulations to all the players who played in the Herts Juniors Summer League. Special congratulations to Henry Martin, Freddie Price and Joseph Wise who won the U12 Boys Div 2 league.
  • We currently have 4 teams playing in the Herts Juniors Winter Leagues.
  • Good luck to everyone.
