Elliswick LTC Newsletter – October 2018

Dear Members,

Welcome to our October Newsletter.  It is time to celebrate the rich deep colours of Autumn at Elliswick LTC and a great time to get active and have fun playing tennis to keep yourselves warm and to beat that autumn chill.

Preparation work for the club’s AGM on Saturday 24th November 10.30am is well underway.  Papers for the AGM will be issued around the 10th November including the review of the year, accounts and details of changes to Board members.  Mhairi is standing down as Membership Secretary after 10 years on the Committee and Tony our Chairman after two years.  Refreshments will be served from 10am. Please do try to attend this important meeting and support your club. If you have suggestions or matters you’d like discussed at the AGM, please email [email protected] at least 3 days prior to the meeting.

Also keep an eye out for the email on the members questionnaire which will be issued in the next few days.  It’s been two years since we undertook the last questionnaire and we’re keen to get feedback on how the Committee is doing and any improvements we can make.  The findings will be presented at the AGM meeting on the 24th.

Clubhouse and Grounds

The builders have started work; first off is to provide two sheds, one insulated for the Coaching team to move their kit into the existing garage and another shed will be built for the Groundsman’s gear and tractor.  Once these are up, the builders will start on the main building, initially preparing the ground and digging foundations.  We also will need to consider the interior decoration such as carpets, paintwork, furniture etc.  If you have suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us by emailing [email protected].  We will continue to update you with the progress monthly.

One of the floodlights (on court 6) has a damaged mechanism and we’ve been advised by Abacus to leave it up while they order the parts.  Abacus will provide us with a date to fix it soon.

Franks Forestry were on site on the 22nd October to trim the large trees at the entrance and to trim some of the Leylandii hedges, which they do annually.

Winners Boards are now up to date with 2018 Adults and Juniors.

Team Tennis

Autumn Datchworth matches have nearly come to an end.  So far the Elliswick 1st Team is in 4th position in Division 1, the top division, with 1 match remaining.  The Elliswick 2nd and 3rd teams are in the top position of their divisions, winning all their matches.  As they are new teams in the Autumn league, they had to be put in the lowest Divisions (Division 9 and 10).  Both Elliswick 2nd and 3rd teams have 1 more match to play (including one which was postponed due to weather).

The Winter mixed team matches start in November.  Elliswick LTC have again entered 7 teams in the East Herts Winter Mixed league.

Juniors

Deborah Temple, our Junior Team Captain is looking to create a junior ladder to give our juniors more opportunity to play matches within the club.  Details of this will follow shortly.  We are also hoping to get some friendly matches against other local clubs.

Socials

The annual quiz evening took place in October and this year was organised by Carol Arnsby, an experienced quiz master.  It turned out another very successful evening and our thanks go to Carol and congratulations to the winning team who all received prizes of wine and chocolates!

The Comedy Night is the next event and takes place on Saturday 10th November.  The Bar opens from 7.30pm with entertainment starting at 8pm.  We have nearly 60 people coming along but still have a couple of spare places for this event – please email Jeanette Rickerty ([email protected]) if you would like to join us.

Wear your Father Christmas hat at mix in tennis on Saturday 22nd December at 10am and celebrate Christmas with coffee and mince pies with us.

2 spaces have become available on the Thursday pilates session.  Please contact Di Jesse at [email protected] if you wish to book your place.

Looking forward to seeing many of you at the AGM on the 24th November!

Kind Regards

Elliswick LTC Committee
