Welcome to our September Newsletter.

 

COURTS 4-7 RESURFACING UPDATE

Our contractor has indicated (not confirmed) a date of around 16 October for delivery of the carpet, with installation shortly thereafter. We will further inform you once we have more concrete information.

 

2026 ADULTS AND JUNIOR TOURNAMENTS

We expect to hold the 2026 tournaments on the following dates:

CLUB TOURNAMENT: Saturday 20th June with reserve date Sunday 21st June 2026.

JUNIOR TOURNAMENT: Sunday 28th June with reserve date Sunday 5th July 2026.

Please put the above dates in your diary. More information to follow.

 

CLUB NIGHTS & SOCIAL TENNIS

The autumn season is underway now. The summer club nights (men’s, ladies, mixed and juniors) have all come to an end.  Thank you to those who help organised and run our club nights.  However, our morning social mixed-in tennis sessions are still running on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am.  Please do keep our social tennis vibrant by attending the sessions. All abilities are welcome. Just turn up and play.

 

ANOTHER ATTEMPT OF ROADS CLOSURE

There will be other micro surfacing works on Connaught Rd/Elliswick Rd/Browning Rd from Monday 6th to Wednesday 8th October from 7:30am to 6pm. Vehicles may not be allowed access during the works except for emergency vehicles. For further information, please speak to the on-site team on the day who will be able to advise on access or contact the contractor EST on 08442253336.

 

 TEAM TENNIS

Ladies Teams

Our ladies have had a good summer – well played all!

Herts league: 1st team won Intermediate division and 2nd team stay division 1

Hot rackets: 1st team stay division 1, 2nd team stay division 2, 3rd team stay division 3 and 4th team stay division 6.

Winter fixtures are in planning for 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and captains should be or already are in contact with their teams. Have a good season all.

 Mens Teams

The summer seasons (Herts League and Hot Rackets) are almost concluded. Many thanks to fellow captains for their time and effort spent arranging the fixtures and finding players to represent our club. Also thank you to all those who played in the matches which we hope you all enjoyed.

Winter vets dates are all arranged and captains should reach out to their teams for selection.  We have 3 men’s teams in the over 45’s and over 55’s and 2 teams in the over 65’s age categories. Best of luck to all our teams who are taking part. If anyone would like to be included in the squads, then please let our Men’s Captain, Jem know at [email protected] and he can put you in touch with the respective team captain.

Mixed Teams

The Autumn Datchworth league is now underway. The fixtures for the East Herts Winter Mixed have also been released and our 6 captains are busy fixing their matches with the opposition. Thank you to all the captains for all their work in helping to make the leagues run so smoothly and good luck to all the players playing in the autumn/winter seasons. SOCIALS

The last supper night was a huge success.  Thank you to the fab four (Sally, Angela, Jo and Jeanette) for a delicious meal, enjoyed by everyone who attended.

Our Macmillan Coffee Morning was also a great success, raising over £490.  Thank you all for your generous donations.

The quiz night on Saturday 27th September was highly entertaining.  Thank you to our genius Quiz Mistress Carol Arnsby for making the evening so enjoyable and well done to the winning teams.

7th – SAVE THE DATE:   Christmas Charity Music and Magic Evening with Tim Sutton and Upbeat Choir at 6:00-8:00pm. Mulled Wine and Mince Pies. In aid of   https://www.future-academy.org.uk/ which provides education and football for refugee children in Beirut.

LOST PROPERTY BOXES

Please look through the lost property boxes (clothing, racquets, water bottles) in the clubhouse as the boxes will be emptied at the end of this week and we will donate the contents to local Charity.

CHARITY EVENT

Harpenden Lions Club are organising a Ceilidh on Saturday 22nd November at the Wheathampstead Memorial Hall to raise funds for the charity that runs the Harpenden Hopper, which provides accessible transport in the local area. Individual tickets can be purchased via the website but if anyone would like to get together to book a table of 8 or 10 persons, please contact David Cowan at [email protected]
