Elliswick LTC Newsletter – August 2025
Welcome to our August Newsletter. We hope that you all have had a great summer.
Courts 4-7 are now back in use but with an asphalt surface for the time being. The new astro surface is expected to be installed in mid/late September and will result in these courts being out of action for approximately 5 days. We will update members with exact dates closer to the time.
We are sure that you are all looking forward to playing on the new astro surface. In the meantime, please ensure that you have tennis shoes with appropriate soles so as to not damage the new surface. If in doubt about your shoes, ask a Committee member or one of the coaches.
CLUB NIGHTS
Our Summer club nights (Men’s nights on Tuesdays, Ladies nights on Wednesdays and Mixed nights on Thursdays, all starting at 6pm) are still continuing until the end of September. The Friday Junior Nights will reconvene after the Summer holidays on Friday 12th September and will also run until the end of September.
CLUBHOUSE AND GROUNDS
We now have a smart new hand dryer in the men’s washroom. The different design is more hygienic than the previous one as it won’t require cleaning.
You might be interested to know that the solar panels have earned the club £916 for power exported to the grid between March and the end of July (as well as meeting most of the club’s own energy needs during this period).
TEAM TENNIS
Ladies Teams
We have a few summer matches to complete in September in the Herts league as we start to look towards Winter Vets, in which we have entered 1 x 40’s, 2 x 50’s and 2 x 60’s teams. Captains will be in touch when fixtures are out (expect in the next few weeks) if you were on the teams last year or have expressed an interest recently. If you wish to play in any of the teams, please contact [email protected]
Men’s Teams
The Summer League season is almost over. Thanks to the team captains for their hard work in organising the matches and thanks to the players in participating in team tennis.
The vets leagues will get underway in the next few months. If anyone would like to be included in the squads for 45+, 55+, 65+, then please let Jem know at [email protected] and he can put you in touch with the respective team captain.
Mixed Teams
We are now entering the Autumn/Winter competitions and have entered a number of teams into the Autumn Datchworth and the Winter Mixed leagues. The Autumn Datchworth runs from early Sept until early November usually on Saturday afternoons and the Winter Mixed from November to April. Both are two pair teams. Anyone who played in the previous year’s mixed teams and this year’s Summer Datchworth will be included in the squads for the forthcoming competitions but if you didn’t play in any of these and would like to included please let Amy Martin know via [email protected] and she’ll get you added to the appropriate team squad.
