Elliswick LTC Newsletter – August 2022

Dear Members,

Welcome to our August Newsletter.  We hope that you all had a great summer and let’s hope the sun will continue to shine on our courts for the remainder of the year! Most of the summer matches have now been played and it looks like it’s been another excellent season with most teams either retaining their status or vying for promotion.

Our Ladies’ Captain, Groundsman and Social Secretary have decided to retire from the Committee after this year’s AGM. Would anybody interested in either of these positions please contact Eric Rovick or Andree Haxton at [email protected] for further details.

Clubhouse and Grounds

  • Abacus are coming to do maintenance work on the existing floodlights for two days on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th September. Courts 4-7 will be unavailable on those days until the work is completed.
  • Martin Wren has reinstated the electrically opening velux windows in the clubhouse.
  • The two broken window catches have been replaced.
  • We have had design drawings for the new floodlight proposal we have commissioned, and the lighting design is now underway.

Mixed Team Tennis.

Autumn matches in both Datchworth and East Herts leagues commence this month.

We have 3 teams in Datchworth with captains Amy Martin 1st team, Tony Ward 2nd team and Jem Collier-Garrity for 3rd team.

In the East Herts Mixed League, we have 6 teams this year with captains Kate Curson, Rob Gardiner, Tony Ward, Steve Hall, Rachel Hoddinott and David Kendall respectively.

As always a big thank you to the captains for committing their time and organising fixtures over the season. They will be in contact with their nominated teams over the next few weeks.

Juniors

Junior Tournament

On Sunday 18th September, the Junior Tournament will take place and we now have 35 juniors signed up!  BBQ food and drinks will be available throughout the day, so please come along to support our junior members and make it an extra special day.  It will be a one day “round robin” championship with finals from around 3pm.  Timings for the day will be advised shortly to all those who have entered.  As with any event, we rely on volunteers to make this happen, so if you can assist with scoring a match or two that would be greatly appreciated.  There will be refreshments during the day, lunch and cake in the afternoon.  Please email Ken Michie at [email protected] if you’re able to help on the day.

Junior nights

These will recommence on Friday 9th September and end on 30th September.  Junior School children may attend from 4.30pm to 6pm and senior school children from 6pm to 8pm except on the last night (Friday 30th September) when it will finish at 7pm.

The Tuckshop will be open, serving sweets, drinks and hotdogs.
