Elliswick LTC Newsletter – July 2019

Dear Members,

Welcome to our July Newsletter. Now that the summer months are upon us, it is time to make the most of the sunny days to get fit and healthy by playing more tennis while the sun is still shining on our courts.

Clubhouse and Grounds

The acoustic doors have been repaired. There will be a small team of people who are allowed to operate them. If the doors need to be opened or closed please contact Nefyn at [email protected]

The urinal in the male toilet has been fixed, this turned out to be complicated and difficult as the pipe had become blocked and had to be replaced.

The new planting after the building work was completed is looking very good, a nice job by Dave Watkinson.

Socials

SUPPER NIGHT – A very delicious July supper was cooked by our dynamic duo chefs Victoria and Susie.  Thank you to both of them who made the evening so enjoyable. The next supper night is being held on the 8th August which is going to be a BBQ cooked by our own super South African chef, Dougie Carlean. The bar will be open from 7pm to all members but if you wish to eat you must put your name down on the list which will be posted several days before on the notice board.

Juniors

JUNIOR NIGHT
Friday 19th July marked the last of the Junior Nights for now, but they return at the beginning of September for a few weeks.  Thank you to the many who visited the tuck shop.  The tuck shop was run by a member of Elliswick (as part of a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award) and all money raised was donated to Wateraid.  Thank you for your support.  If anyone would like to step forward for next one, please let a committee member know or email Deborah Temple at [email protected].  It is an ideal opportunity for the “Volunteer” section of DofE.

TOURNAMENT

The Junior Tournament will take place on Sunday 15th September with a reserve date (in case of bad weather) Sunday 22nd September. The list is starting to fill up.  Please sign up before the deadline of 31st August as we need time to organise the games.  The sign-up sheet is on the Junior board in the clubhouse or you can contact Deborah Temple at [email protected].

Volunteers – The day was a great success last year because of the kind volunteers who came forward and helped score the games.  PLEASE DO COME FORWARD AS WE NEED YOUR HELP to ensure the smooth running and ability to keep score as there are so many games played throughout the day. Please contact Deborah Temple directly.  Thanks in advance.
BBQ, BAR & hopefully lots of sunshine like last year.

BOX LEAGUE

Reminder: all games to be completed before the 15th September (Junior Tournament).

Jumbulance Cycle Ireland – Charity Appeal

On behalf of our long standing members Gillian and Neil Berry we would like to ask for your support for a special cause. Gillian is chair of The Jumbulance Trust which is a Harpenden based charity providing accessible travel opportunities both in the UK and abroad for the seriously sick and disabled members of our society. Jumbulances are specially modified coaches which can provide ambulance standard care for the travellers whilst they are away on their trips – sometimes this is the only way they can experience a day trip or holiday that we may take for granted.

To support this great cause Neil has volunteered to squeeze into lycra and take on the cycling challenge from Mizen Head on the southern tip of Ireland to Malin Head on the far northern coast – 427 miles in whatever weather Ireland can promise in early October. We would really appreciate your support in encouraging Neil to keep pedalling and reach his charity appeal target. You can donate on Neil’s JustGiving page :
