Dear Members,

Welcome to our June Newsletter. Now that the summer months are upon us, it is time to make the most of the sunny days to get fit and healthy by playing more tennis while the sun is still shining on our courts. It is great to see that the courts are in high demand at the moment.

LTA update: Following the Prime Minister’s statement on 23rd June, there will be no immediate changes to the guidelines for tennis. We will be reviewing the Government’s detailed guidance once published and updating the guidelines for tennis as appropriate ahead of the Government’s new measures being introduced from 4 July. The Prime Minister however confirmed that from 4th July the maximum size of groups that will be allowed to meet outside will remain at no more than six people (except where these are from two household groups only), therefore our clubhouse facilities should remain closed.

The LTA remains in continued dialogue with Government, and we anticipate larger groups being permitted as restrictions are further eased.

We will share further updates with regards to the easing of restrictions as decisions are made and ask that until that time members remain patient and follow the current guidelines that are in place.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that has been caused to you following the recent platform upgrades. We very much appreciate your patience whilst the Clubspark Team work through the outstanding issues. There is more to do and we will update you over the next few weeks.

Members who wish to book a court, please do so via our new Clubspark website:

After setting up your account (if you have not already done so), then please email [email protected] in order to activate your account.

Juniors have court booking priority on Mon-Fri from 15:30pm until 18:00pm, if not used for coaching.  Also, juniors have priority on Court 5 except during: adult mix-in sessions between 08:00-12:00 on Saturdays; 10:00-12:00 Sundays; and when used for coaching. Juniors at Secondary School age are now permitted to play without parental supervision as long as they follow ELTC guidelines.

Since the reopening of the club, we were able to fill the remaining vacant places rapidly. Our membership is now totally full, with a further 150 people on our growing waiting list.

If you have family members who would like to join next year, please make sure they are on the waiting list.

Please make sure you wear your shoe tags whenever you play. If you bring any guests, fill in the visitors’ book and pay the appropriate fee BEFORE you play!

Tennis balls are still available to purchase from the club for £3 per tin of 3. If you wish to purchase them, then please make payment to the Elliswick Account and then email [email protected] after you have done so.  We will then advise you when your tennis balls are ready for your collection at the club.

At present, only arranged/managed social tennis is permissible until further notice. If you wish to join in the ladies morning on Tuesdays at 9am and Mix-in on Thursdays from 9am, please contact Andree Haxton at [email protected] to register your interest. And if you wish to play in the ladies night on Wednesday from 6pm, please contact Victoria Aitchison at [email protected].

Our Mens and Ladies Captains are finalising details regarding the in-house friendly competition, known as the box league or the ladder. Details will be sent to the players separately.

Mens doubles box leagues will be starting from Monday the 6th July.  Please check the notice board for more details, draws will be up later this week.  For any late entries, please contact our Mens Captain, Rupert Tillbrooke on 07789811097, to see if there is space.

Ladies doubles players will now be played as a box league and ladies singles will be run as a ladder. This is due to player numbers. The Ladies Box League play will commence on July 1st and participants will have all information sent to them on 29th so they can start play.

We hope to know more by mid-July with regards to the Autumn Herts and Datchworth Autumn tennis leagues which are due to start in September.

Members who are interested in tennis coaching in September, please contact our Head Coach, Ben Wood at [email protected] .

Charity Fund Raising – Play a Summer Set for the Mayor!

One of our members, Neil Craig is raising funds to support the Town Mayor of Harpenden Charities.  Details as follows:

Play during July and August and you can make a donation to the Mayor’s chosen charities and help raise funds for great local causes.

The Town Mayor of Harpenden, Cllr Mrs Nicola Linacre, has chosen The Daylight Club and The Human Milk Foundation as her charities this mayoral year.

The Daylight Club was formed in 1996 and is a social club for adults of working age with physical and other disabilities. Members meet Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the year and the Club provides activities to suit all interests including creative and recreational, interactive workshops, days out and listening to guest speakers.

The Human Milk Foundation provides donor human milk to sick premature babies in hospital neonatal intensive care units and to mums at home with cancer and other conditions. The charity was set up to support The Hearts Milk Bank and aims to ensure that every baby who could benefit can have equitable access to donor milk.
