Elliswick LTC Newsletter – May 2021

Dear Members,

Welcome to our May Newsletter.

We hope that this newsletter finds you and your families safe and well.  It has been great to see many members enjoying themselves playing tennis and socialising using our clubhouse facilities since our clubhouse reopened on the 17th May 2021. However, we would like all members and their guests to remain vigilant, by maintaining appropriate social distancing and hygiene standards. We are looking forward to the forthcoming Step Four of the Government’s roadmap and a return to normality.

CAR PARKING

We would like to politely remind you, when parking in the neighbourhood, to please ensure that you do not block/obstruct our neighbours’ driveways. There is plenty of parking available on the street, with no restrictions at the weekend nor outside 10am-12pm on weekdays.

Our first Bank Holiday Tournament of the year was held yesterday, Monday the 31st May 2021. It was very successful and well attended. Everybody enjoyed themselves playing fun, friendly, yet competitive tennis in the sunshine.  Well done to all the players and congratulations to the winners.

MEMBERS OPEN DAY – ELTC SUMMER PARTY ON SATURDAY 3rd JULY 2021

We would like to invite all members and their family who are also members to attend the Summer Party on Saturday the 3rd July from 12pm to 4pm. This will obviously be contingent on the Government’s confirmation that we proceed with Step 4. We promise an afternoon of fun and celebration after a very difficult year for everyone at the club. We will provide delicious BBQ, a complimentary drink on arrival, entertainment (live music by Tim Sutton and the gang) and fun tennis games.  We would love to see many of our members there. Please do let us know if you wish to attend so that we know how many to cater for. We hope to see as many of you there as possible, so please do save the date in your diaries!

GROUNDS & CLUBHOUSE

A team from Abacus are coming on 10th June. They will be addressing the stuck floodlight mast as well as blown bulbs and circuitry in the mast nearest the clubhouse.
The planning application for the proposed new floodlights for courts 5 and 6 is still with the council.
We will be replacing the clubhouse back door in the next few weeks.

The Summer Datchworth league

Datchworth mixed is scheduled to start on Monday 14th and will run a short season, every Monday night starting 6:30pm for 7 weeks. Elliswick has entered 3 teams and the format will be 1 lady, 2 men playing,  2 mixed and 1 men’s doubles. Fixtures are due out early June. If you want to play, please contact [email protected]

Mid-Herts Mixed League

This was previously known as mixed friendlies.  This league consists of friendly matches against other clubs in the area and is a good opportunity for any members who wish to play a match in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.  We are looking for players to play in this league, so if you are interested, please do not hesitate to register your interest by emailing Andree Haxton at [email protected].

JUNIORS

We are hoping that to restart the Junior nights after the 21st June. The first session is from 4pm to 6pm, for the primary school members.  Parents will need to be on side during this time. We will need parents to volunteer from 6pm to 8pm, to supervise the secondary school members.  If any members would like to volunteer to run the tuck shop during the junior nights, please contact Andree Haxton at [email protected].

CHARITY BIKE RIDE FOR RAINBOW HOSPICE

Just a reminder that two of our long-standing members, Steve Hall and Tony Ward, and two of their friends are undertaking in late June/early July a cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats (LeJoG) in aid of Rainbows Hospice for children.  LeJoG is over 1,000 miles (or Harpenden to Frankfurt…and back!) and 40,000 ft of climbing (ie1.3x Everest!) over 14 consecutive days.

Rainbows is a registered charity providing vital end of life care and symptom management for affected children and short breaks, respite and bereavement care for their families.  The charity strives to make every day as wonderful as it can be and help over 450 families to make treasured, happy memories, full of smiles and laughter in the time that they have.

If you’re inclined to sponsor them (any donation greatly received to help us pedal our way through the pain!) the link to the JustGiving site is https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/codgers-lejogers

Kind Regards
