Elliswick LTC Newsletter – May 2022

Dear Members

After a beautiful May bank holiday at the beginning of this month; we’ve had a wonderful sunny month of tennis.  It’s great to see the courts being so well used with the commencement of the annual tournament and summer team tennis.

Road Closure

Elliswick Road is holding a Jubilee Street Party on the afternoon of Sunday 5th June from 3pm to 8 pm. There will be full access to the Tennis club via Browning Road.

Ladies Tennis

The summer league matches are now underway, and all team selections made.

Any ladies who would like to play in the friendlies should contact Lynn Frankling.

The Prosecco evening was a great success so thanks again to Victoria, who organised the fours, and to all those involved with organising the food.

Ladies nights are well attended and the weather has been kind to us so far.  Ladies of all abilities are welcome from 6pm.  If you would like to get the weekly whatsapp messages regarding numbers attending, please email Victoria ([email protected]).

Men’s Tennis

All the winter mens vets matches have now concluded and the summer leagues matches are just starting to be played.

Mixed Tennis

Monday night Datchworth League mixed is mid-season with our 3 teams. This is due to end mid-July.

Don’t forget social mix in every Thursday night starting at 6pm. Turn up and play with a coach there to organise relevant 4’s.

Club Tournament

The tournament is well under way and most matches have been played by the stated deadlines. Congratulations to all those players remaining in the tournament.  With just over 3 weeks left until finals day, match timeliness becomes of increasing importance.  All remaining tournament players should schedule their next matches as soon as possible, particularly as court booking availability can become a bottleneck to the tournament.  Good luck to all the participants!

Lidia Dinham

Please see below the message from Lidia’s family:

Mum loved her tennis — and her games at Elliswick especially — and I’m sure she would be thrilled to know she had earned the epithet “The Rock, The Brave Soul, The Gem of Elliswick”! It has been a great comfort to see how highly regarded she was by her friends and fellow players.

I thought you would like to know that the messages you collected have been added to a tribute page my sister has created in Lidia’s memory. The tributes of Elliswick LTC members can be viewed by clicking on this link.

Kind Regards
